From the middle station, a really pretty trail leads through woods and open pastures. There are stunning views across the valley towards the Hochkönig. This is a really nice, very easy walk that would be suited to young children.
We ate Brettl Jause, which we can recommend and enjoyed homemade juices.
We decided to continue walking after lunch up to the summit and to take the lift back down. The route we took up the mountain however was pretty steep and not a lot of fun! Through the mountain pastures of the 'Senderhangs', it's described as an easy mountaineering climb, but our kids really didn't enjoy it. Next time, we would choose to walk from Angertal to the Alm and back or from the Stubnerkogel base station.
Another easy family walk, this time to the Stubneralm on the Stubnerkogel between Bad Gastein and Angertal. The family run Alm serves 100% organic produce from their own farm
There are several routes to reach the Stubneralm, and we chose to take the cable car to the middle station of the Stubnerkogelbahn. You could also walk up from the valley, walk down from the summit station or take the forest road up the mountain from the parking area at Angertal (1.5 hrs)
