Here's what we got up to during our weeks stay in August.
Saturday started with a big hike up the Schlossalm to the Fundneralm. It's a fairly steep climb from the Goldberg hotel, where we parked, up to the Aeroplanstadl (not open in the summer). From there, it's a gentle walk to the open pastures where you ca find a choice of Alms serving their own produce. We chose the Fundneralm, where the charismatic owner takes great pleasure in serving his guests.
We skied down to the middle station, Kitzstein on the red runs, some of which we had all to ourselves. Saturday is the best day to ski because the slopes are generally very quite due to changeover day.
We headed back down to Angertal for lunch at the Waldgasthof. TIP: the Waldgasthof is best reached by taking the yellow cable car 'Senderbahn' to the mid point (first stop) and skiing down the black run B20.
In the afternoon we took the gondola to the Stubnerkogel and skied over to Bad Gastein.
